Apple & Pear Crumble! Fall Special 🍂🍁🍂

My Aunt has been tempting me with talks of the apple and pear crumble she made and I’ve been dream-drooling about it ever since! 🤤

I was waiting to buy some pears to try it out and this finally happened! It is such a simple to make dessert and actually very healthy too!

It’s the season for pumpkin pies and Apple crumbles 😍 and From my Kitchen Today, Apple and Pear Crumble! 🍁




Method:


Ingredients:

For the Fruit base:

Apple - 1 (peeled and cubed)

Pear - 2 (peeled and cubed)

Demerara Sugar - 1/2 tbsp

Lemon Juice - 1 Tbsp

***Pumpkin Pie Spice - 1 Tbsp

Whole Wheat Flour - 2 Tbsp


For the crumble:

Butter - 1/4 cup (2 tbsp)

Whole Wheat Flour - 1/2 cup

Sugar - 4 tbsp

Salt - 1/2 tsp


***Pumpkin Pie Spice is a mixture of finely powdered cinnamon(1), cloves(1/8), cardamom(1/8), nutmeg(1/4), dried ginger(1/4), dried lemon peel(1/4). Proportions in parenthesis



Method:

Preheat the oven to 350F

For the fruit base:

  1. Wash, peel and cut the apple and pears into 1” cubes

  2. In a deep mixing bowl, add the cubed fruits along with lemon juice, sugar, pumpkin pie spice and wheat flour and mix well

  3. In a greased baking dish, add the fruits coated in spices

  4. For the crumble top: In another bowl, add cold, cubed butter and sugar and mix using your finger tips until the butter is incorporated well in the sugar

  5. Fold in the wheat flour and salt and mix using the same method until the crumble resembles coarse sand

  6. Put the crumble over the fruits in the baking dish such that the fruit is fully covered

  7. Bake in preheated oven at 350F for 40 mins until the crumble on top becomes golden brown

  8. Enjoy the warm apple and pear crumble with some plain vanilla ice cream 🍨
